Description
Vintage oil painting on Masonite by one of the pioneers of the Highwaymen art movement, Horace Foster. He was a friend of Sam and Harold Newton and painted with them as well as with Alfred Hair. Early on he left the group to pursue a career in truck driving ,Foster actually spent 35 years driving a truck and said that he “always watched the scenery and tried to take a mental snapshot of the landscapes that he was passing through. “
When he returned to painting, Gary Monroe had already written his book, thus not mentioning Foster and how he contributed to the Highwaymen movement. One day if ever there is an addition to the original 26 artists Foster will have to be included which I why I personally have 2 of his pieces I’m holding on to.

Quote from Foster
“We were not accepted in the galleries, so we got out on the streets. It was like hand-to-hand combat,” said Horace Foster
